As part of our local community outreach, Trinity helps support the Hummelstown Food Bank located a block down Main Street from us in the basement of Zion Lutheran Church. From there, the bank serves the residents of Hummelstown who need assistance with their grocery needs. Disciples can support the food bank by dropping off donations at Trinity, making financial donations to Trinity’s Monthly Mission Emphasis during the month of November or to Zion Lutheran Church, and by donating time as a Food Bank volunteer. To help with food donations, place items in the large plastic tote located just inside the parking lot entrance doors marked “Food Bank Donations.” Some of the staples that are always needed include: breakfast cereals, canned fruits and vegetables, instant rice and mashed potatoes, peanut butter, condiments such as ketchup, mayo, mustard, sugar, and salad dressings. Each week, a food bank volunteer transports the donations to the bank. Monetary donations are used by the bank to purchase food at a discount from the Pennsylvania Food Bank. To contribute, make your donation payable to Zion Lutheran Church and mail it to: Hummelstown Food Pantry, c/o Zion Lutheran Church, 100 West Main Street, Hummelstown, PA 17036. Trinity disciples also help provide staffing to the bank. To volunteer, contact Zion Lutheran Church at 566-2589.
